One shape, with veins
A leaf is a single region with a line down the middle and smaller lines branching off it, which makes it a quiet page — nothing to count, nothing to stack, just one shape to fill and a vein pattern to follow.
Those veins are the interesting part. They branch in a way that repeats at smaller and smaller scales, which is the same pattern as a tree's branches and a river's tributaries. Pointing that out to a seven-year-old is one of the more memorable things available on a colouring page.
