Dot-to-Dot: Four-Leaf Clover
Preschool · 3–5A four-leaf clover in 28 dots, with a long curving stem at the end. Each leaf is a lobe that comes back almost to the centre, so the pencil crosses its own path four times and a child has to follow the numbers rather than the shape. The stem is the reward at the end. Free to print on A4 or US Letter, ages four to seven.
Four lobes, four crossings
Each leaf comes back almost to the middle before the next one starts, so the pencil passes close to its own path four times. This is the page that most rewards reading the number on a dot rather than judging which dot is nearest — and the one where guessing goes most obviously wrong.
The stem is the finish
A long curve at the end, after the fiddly part is done. Children who have concentrated through the leaves tend to enjoy it.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does every page go up to 28?
- So there is no easy page and no hard page to sort first. A child who can count to twenty-eight can do the clover and every other picture in the set.
- Why are these all objects rather than animals?
- Because joining dots gives you an outline, and an animal's outline is a lump — what makes an owl an owl is its face, which sits inside the shape. A key, a crown or a stocking is recognisable from its edge alone.
