Preschool · 3–5Six free printable color cards on one sheet. Better for matching than for testing: ask your child to find something in the room the same colour. Many children sort by colour perfectly at two but cannot name the colours until well past three. Print on A4 or US Letter and cut along the dashed lines — sticking the sheet to a cereal box first is worth the extra minute, because flimsy cards bend within a day. Then play rather than test: spread four face up and ask for one, hide one and ask which is missing, or post them through a slot in a box.
Naming colours
Colour names are learned later than most parents expect — many children can sort by colour perfectly at two but cannot name the colours until well past three. Sorting and naming are separate skills and develop separately.

If your child can group objects by colour but cannot say which is which, nothing is wrong — the perception is there and the vocabulary is catching up. Keep naming colours as you go about the day and the words arrive without being drilled.
