A candle is a holder, a body and a flame — three regions stacked in an obvious order, which makes it a good page for a child who is learning to work systematically rather than filling in whatever they happen to look at. Start at the bottom and work up.
The flame is the interesting region. It is small, it is a shape children have strong opinions about, and it is the only part where the natural colour is not a single flat one — real flames are yellow at the top and blue at the base. A five-year-old can be genuinely delighted by being told that.
