Original art, no licensed characters

Every holiday page here is drawn from scratch. There are no film characters, no franchise mascots and no copyrighted figures anywhere on this site — which means a teacher can print a class set without thinking about it, and a parent is not quietly handing their child a piece of advertising. It is a deliberate constraint and it does cost us traffic, since licensed-character searches are enormous. It is still the right call for a site aimed at small children.

Planning a bit ahead

Holiday pages have a short window, so it is worth printing a small batch a week or two before rather than on the morning itself. A folder of ready-to-go pages is what saves the wet afternoon before a break, the party where the games finish early, or the long wait at a family gathering where a child has run out of things to do.

These are also the pages most likely to be given away rather than kept. A colored card for a grandparent is a better present than anything bought, and it gives the coloring a point beyond the coloring.

Using them in a classroom

• Print a class set a week ahead — the printer queue on the last day of term is not a place to be.
• Holiday pages make good early-finisher work, since they need no explanation.
• For mixed-belief classrooms, the seasonal pages (snow, winter scenes) carry no religious content and work for everyone.
• A colored page glued to folded card is a whole art lesson and a present at the same time.
