Stroke order for W
Four diagonal strokes without lifting: down, up, down, up. Or, more usefully for a child, two V shapes standing side by side — which is exactly how to describe it if they have just traced the V sheet.
Capital and lowercase are the same, so this sheet doubles up like the V one.
Counting the dips
A three-dip W is a frequent and cheerful error. Count out loud while tracing, the same way as with m: down, up, down, up, stop. And keep the mountains-and-water pairing running — W is the water, dipping down.

- Should V and W be taught together?
- Yes. W is literally two V shapes, so teaching them in sequence makes the second letter practice of the first rather than a new problem.
- My child draws three dips on W. How do I fix it?
- Count out loud while tracing — down, up, down, up, stop. Counting catches it during the stroke, which pointing at the result does not.
